Personal Statement

Brief Bio

Melissa Kemp joined Renovus in November 2006 and is a Project Designer for solar electric (PV) and solar thermal systems. She conducts site evaluations, drafts system designs and proposals, manages ongoing projects (including materials ordering, NYSERDA, and utility paperwork for projects), and participates in field crew installations of systems. She became a NYSERDA-eligible installer in April 2008, and plans to take the NABCEP exam in March 2009. Before coming to Renovus, she worked for Public Citizen in Washington, DC as a technical analyst and local organizer helping communities to oppose new coal and nuclear power plants and make the case for renewable energy. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 2002. Beyond this work, her other interests include bicycling, paddling, and practical hands-on skills like electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, and small-scale construction. She strongly supports composting and local sustainable agriculture, local manufacturing, and the development of waste minimization and full-cycle recycling programs. She finds the current economic measures and political systems of our country inadequate and absurb, and wishes people would stop talking and do things differently.
