An Op-Ed piece by Al Gore appears in today's NY Times. Here is an excerpt:
The heavy snowfalls this month have been used as fodder for ridicule by those who argue that global warming is a myth, yet scientists have long pointed out that warmer global temperatures have been increasing the rate of evaporation from the oceans, putting significantly more moisture into the atmosphere - thus causing heavier downfalls of both rain and snow in particular regions, including the Northeastern United States. Just as it's important not to miss the forest for the trees, neither should we miss the climate for the snowstorm.
The new amendment to the NY net-metering law eliminates the existing peak-load-based limitation on the size of non-residential solar and wind systems that are able to take advantage of net-metering. One-time grid interconnection charges will be capped at $350 and $750 for solar and wind, respectively, for non-residential installations up to 25 kW in size. For systems larger than 25 kW, up to the overall cap of 2,000 kW (2 MW), the customer would be responsible for the actual interconnection charges.
If you missed it the first time around, listen to Renovus on the radio! Originally aired on November 7, this episode of House Call with Susan Lustick introduces renewable energy and how it can fit into your life. Check out a podcast of the original broadcast.

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, New York state has received $74 million which will be awarded to qualified energy conservation projects. The funds will be used on projects targeting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the development of clean fleets of vehicles.
The program is open to most not-for-profit entities including municipal governments, public schools and universities, public and private hospitals, and 501(c)(3) organizations. Qualifying institutions can apply to have up to 100% of a solar electric installation funded by NYSERDA. For more information, check out the NYSERDA website. Don't delay, the first round of applications are due on August 24th. Call Renovus today to find out more!
When the federal government passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, it earmarked $3 billion for a renewable energy grant program. The details of the programs have been slow to come, but the U.S. Treasury and Department of Energy have now published the terms of the program.
Under the program, organizations that purchase solar electric systems will be able to replace the Federal Tax Credits they receive on the system with direct payments from the Federal government. Unfortunately, the program applies only to non-residential systems. For more information, take a look at the program guidelines, or give us a call.
Though the guidelines have been released, the program is not yet accepting applications.
